YESMILE is a dedicated mobile app for orthodontic clients that empowers them to track their teeth‑alignment progress over time. Through a visually intuitive interface, users can upload and compare periodic progress photos, set alignment goals, and monitor improvements — all while staying connected with their orthodontist’s treatment plan.
Orthodontic treatment is long-term and progress can be subtle. Without a clear, visual record, clients may feel uncertain about the effectiveness of their aligners or braces. Providing a simple, intuitive way to document and track progress increases confidence, engagement, and adherence, while giving orthodontists real-time insights into patient outcomes.
To understand client needs and orthodontist workflows, we conducted interviews with both groups and analyzed behavioral patterns. Clients shared challenges in tracking subtle progress and staying motivated, while orthodontists highlighted difficulties in monitoring compliance and providing timely feedback. Competitive analysis of health and dental apps helped identify effective approaches for visual progress tracking and reminders. We also tested early prototypes with users to evaluate how easily they could capture, compare, and review progress photos. Insights from these sessions guided the design of intuitive flows, clear timelines, and reminder systems that support client engagement and make orthodontic treatment progress visible and motivating.
